So I purchased the carpet kit for the 92 YJ. I was a professional carpet installer for several years, and have experience with carpet and upholstery. I figured this would be an easy install. The carpet arrived in good shape, nicely packed, and is decent quality. There's noise-absorbing, soft pad in strategic wear spots, and a nice heel pad under the pedals.

The instructions are minimal, at best. It's a bad black/white photocopy of a one page PDF. Not nearly enough for an inexperienced installer. The work to get the seats out, seatbelts out, wiring out of the way, remove the shift boot, gas pedal, trunk bracket, etc. - WAY more work than a sentence or two in the manual, and be aware that you'll have to have deep sockets to remove the driver's seat, and very large torx bits to remove the seatbelts.

The carpet didn't fit very well. I spent a lot of time trying to trim it in and around various things in the cab while installing - roll bars, the shift console, etc. The only piece that fit well was the flat piece on the bottom of the rear under the seat. And that didn't fit at the front lip.

I used 3 quarts of contact cement, several brushes, and be aware that you must use a NIOSH-rated respirator to apply this stuff. The more I installed, the worse it looked, and the more I felt I was wasting my time. It's simply not a very good fit. Too long by 1/2", and you're going to have wrinkles. And in places, this is too long by more than an inch - some it was too short. And having the padding doesn't help - the contact cement releases the bond between the carpet and padding, and this renders any rolling or pushing on wrinkles useless, as there's nothing to stick to. Where there was no padding, and I was able to bond directly to the body, it looks great. But that's only about 1/3 of the visible area.

When it was all said and done, I probably had over 25-30 painstaking hours into it. After the seats went back in, it was hard to see the problems I was concerned about, but overall, it looks amateurish and not well done at all. It looks sloppy, and I put a LOT of time and effort into it.

That said, it's a Jeep. It looks fine. It does quiet the ride some, and it seems to make it warmer because I've now plugged some of the body holes. The smell of the contact cement is slowly going away, and I've gotten a couple of compliments on the overall look, but I'm not terribly happy with it.

So, overall, if you know what you're doing, you can give it a shot and you shouldn't be too disappointed. But if you care about the look, fit and finish of your Jeep, pass on this stuff and have a professional install actual automotive carpet - not from a kit. If you've never done an upholstery job before, leave this to the pros, you will be terribly disappointed.

This is a over/under unit. Not an in-line as pictured. The upper dampener replaces the stock unit. The lower unit u-bolts to the track bar and the tie rod. The installation directions are a little sketchy.

Over all-a great dual dampener. It made a big difference in eliminating the bump steer on my 97 TJ.
